Alex King

Thanks to Alex King’s Articles plugin, there’s an Articles section now in the top navigation of my website (For some reason, Alex (to the right) looks a bit like Seinfeld (to the left)to me - no offense, I’m a Seinfeld fan!)

Seinfeld

As Alex wrote: “This plugin allows you to easily present a list of posts you select outside of your blog chronology. Very useful for featuring things that might otherwise slip into the nether regions of your archives.”

A big thank you to Alex for this. Only one issue here: the articles are not listed below the right categories. So, for the moment, don’t look at the category titles, only look at the article titles. This can be a good starting point to learn to know the content on my site.

I have been silent for a couple of days now, because I’m in the middle of some changes/problems that make it a bit difficult to spend a lot of time on blogging. Just to let you know what’s going on:

  • I threw Parallels from my Mac this weekend, in favor of VMWare Fusion. I read some awesome reviews, especially on the performance side of things. My first tests show that, indeed, everything seems to run much smoother in Fusion. For those who don’t know what this is: the 2 programs create a virtual Windows XP or Vista experience in OS X. Almost as good (or bad ;-)) as the real thing!
  • Consequence: I have to reinstall all Windows software, including my Notes environments. Bummer for my experimenting.
  • I did some DXL programming with LotusScript libraries, but ran into some strange bugs I couldn’t find any workaround for (yet). Hell, I don’t even know what they are!
  • Still some good ideas waiting to be explored, but I will need a lot of hours for that.
  • I’m also working on sisterside beesign.be - I want to blog more about work, life and, well, some humor. I’d like to make Bizzybee a pure technical blog, and Beesign will be for the rest.

No big article today! I’m chewing on some new brain bubbles to share, but they need some time to ripe, so keep an eye on my site ;-).

Meanwhile Bruce did it again with his IdeaJam Blog Sidebar Plugin. I’m a huge fan of IdeaJam and I’m happy there is a way to show off my ideas on my site :-).

You can see the result on the left. I would like it to be more in the style of my site and I posted an idea on how this could be achieved too, let’s hope it gets implemented.

Of course, you may vote on what you like. For some reason I’d looove to be in the idea hit list!

I made some changes to the website (and if you don’t see them, you should refresh your browser window):

  • In the header you find the (bizzy)bee I use om my site beesign.be. You can also see the gears that represent the bizzy thoughts. Underneath you notice what should be the result: full honeycombs ready to be harvested by you :-). Well explained, huh?
  • Honeydrops as supporting images for the sidebar.
  • ShareThis icon that makes it possible to send a link about something you like to another person or to create social bookmarks that can give some attention to the articles that deserve this according to you.

I updated the site yesterday evening with some features.

RSS feeds

RSS 3D icon

It might sound obvious that a modern website has an rss feed, but I struggled with it before I got it to work. It’s standard Wordpress, so normally it should work out-of-the-box, but it didn’t.

After many hours of trial and error, it seemed that I didn’t install a plugin as intended (And it was just a matter of not reading-the-readme.txt - now I know why they call these files like that ;-)).I won’t annoy you with the details, but let me just tell you that it functions beautifully now!

Wordpress is the tool I use for this blog. You might wonder why I don’t use one of the open source Notes blogging systems, or perhaps why I don’t create my own primitive blogging system?
